ตับทําหน้าที่อะไร

ตับ (Liver) เป็นอวัยวะที่สำคัญมากที่สุดอีกอวัยวะหนึ่งของสัตว์แทบทุกชนิดรวมถึงมนุษย์ ด้วย ตับนับได้ว่าเป็นต่อมที่มีขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดของร่างกาย มีน้ำหนักประมาณ 1 กิโลกรัม อยู่ในตำแหน่งใต้ชายโครงด้านขวา มีสีแดง แบ่งออกเป็น 2 กลีบ คือกลีบซ้ายและกลีบขวา ทำหน้าที่ทั้งในด้านระบบย่อยอาหารและระบบภูมิคุ้มกันของร่างกาย เป็นต้น
ตับทำหน้าที่หลายอย่างให้กับร่างกาย ทั้งในกระบวนเมตาบอลิซึ่ม (Metabolism) และการย่อยอาหาร โดยสามารถแยกหน้าที่ของตับออกได้ดังนี้
1. ทำหน้าที่ผลิตน้ำดี สำหรับการย่อยไขมันให้กับลำไส้เล็ก
2. สังเคราะห์โปรตีนในพลาสมา
3. การกำจัดพิษของยาและสารเคมีอื่นๆ (รวมถึงแอลกอฮอล์ ถ้าแอลกอฮอล์มากเกินไปทำให้เกิดอาการตับแข็ง)
4. สร้างระบบภูมิคุ้มกันให้กับร่างกาย
5. สะสมไกลโคเจนที่ได้มาจากการย่อยสลายน้ำตาลกลูโคส

จะเห็นว่าตับทำหน้าที่หลายอย่าง โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการกำจัดพิษต่างๆออกจากเลือด โดยเลือดจะหมุนเวียนผ่านตับเพื่อกำจัดพิษนับร้อยรอบต่อวัน ในรายที่ดื่มเครื่องดื่มที่มีแอลกอฮอล์ในปริมาณมากและต่อเนื่อง แอลกอฮอล์เหล่านั้นจะมาสะสมที่ตับและทำลายเซลลืของตับให้เสื่อมสภาพ ทำงานไม่ได้ เรียกว่าอาการของโรคตับแข็งนั่นเอง
นอกจากนี้ตับยังสามารถเกิดอาการผิดปกติได้จากทั้งเชื้อโรคจำพวกไวรัสและ พวกพยาธิ โดยเฉพาะเชื้อไวรัสตับอักเสพสามารถทำให้เกิดมะเร็งตับได้
